Unsubscribe Via Snail Mail

| | Comments (3)

I received a message from Adobe this morning, with the following note at the bottom:

Unsubscribe: This email was sent by, or on behalf of, Adobe Systems Incorporated (Adobe). You've received this email from Adobe because you've expressed an interest in Adobe Photoshop Album and have given Adobe permission to communicate with you via email. If you prefer not to receive email from Adobe in the future, please click here and Adobe will remove you from its list. Please include this entire message in your reply. Alternatively, you may call the following toll-free number: (800) 833-6687, or mail your unsubscribe request to Adobe at the following address:

Adobe Systems Incorporated
P.O. Box 2205
Beaverton, OR 97075

I think this is the first time I've been given a snail mail address to unsubscribe from an email list. I obviously have an internet connection, or I wouldn't have received the email. Why should I need some further method to carry out my unsubscribe request?

If I was receiving unsolicited e-mail which appeared to be coming from Adobe, but might be from a spammer, I would be very wary about clicking on an "unsubscribe" link or sending an e-mail to unsubscribe. I might even consider unsubscribing by snail mail. But then I would realise that by doing so I still have to tell the recipient my e-mail address, which is what spammers want - although it is perhaps easier to verify that the addressee of the snail mail is actually Adobe and not a spammer. So this is not quite as crazy an idea as it seems at first.

Actually, this came from Adobe. It began when I registered an Adobe product, and I've been getting one message every week since then with tips on how to use that product. This was one of those. It's just that I either didn't notice the snail mail unsubscribe option or they just added it.

Also, the link does go to a site owned by Adobe Systems.

Remove email from list.
